Forrester Research has identified billing technology as one of the most important technologies to support the future of buying.

Why, you may ask? Because constant changes in how we buy and sell things in today’s world are driving fundamental shifts to billing technology and its role inside large enterprises.

Buyers of enterprise goods and services are demanding more from the companies they interact with today. Enterprise leaders need flexible, billing management solutions to easily create new product offers, set pricing, manage customer relationships, and gather insights from their recurring customers and revenues.

As a result, Forrester believes the future of buying will require rapid and repeated business reinvention. The future of buying will place more pressure on every business to modernize its billing relationships and the technology that underpins them.

Forrester Senior Analyst, Lily Varon, co-authored a report entitled “Empowered Buying Requires Powerful Billing Technology.” It guides leaders to challenge their assumptions about what billing technology is and what it does for enterprises selling into B2B and B2C markets. The report predicts that a “future fit” technology strategy will enable companies to become adaptive, creative, and resilient and thereby win in the turbulent decade ahead.

By contrast, firms that stick with rigid billing technology face dire consequences including limits on their adaptability, creativity, and ability to react to business disruption. Legacy systems can also create costly impacts on customer experiences and leave money on the table.
