San Francisco, CA – January 14, 2014 Aria Systems, expert in cloud-based recurring revenue management, today lauded the world’s largest professional wrestling federation as it joins the long list of industries expanding their recurring revenue strategies. According to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article from January, 9th, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) executives announced last week that they would launch a new 24/7 digital streaming service on February 24. The executives made their surprise announcement during the just-concluded Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The WWE executives noted that the WWE Network would stream new pre-scheduled programming blocks, plus all twelve of its pay-per-view shows, including WrestleMania, on a new smartphone app – for a $9.99 monthly fee.
The fee represents a bargain for WWE’s customers, given that the wrestling organization charges up to $600 a year for its 12 pay-per-view matches at a one-off $40 to $50 per event viewer, observed Jon Gettinger, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Aria Systems. The fee will be charged in six-month blocks.
“Yet another strategically savvy enterprise is joining the 21st century economy with an expanded recurring revenue model so that its mobile audience can easily consume ever-popular worldwide wrestling ,” he said. “WWE is literally taking recurring revenue to the mat, setting the bar for other professional sports to follow.”
The launch of this new network is a powerful marker of the dramatic shift underway from one-off sales to recurring sales, made all the more compelling because wrestling is leading the charge, added Gettinger.
“It’s a continuation of the paradigm shift of more businesses seeking the best models to monetize new markets,” said Gettinger.
The WWE would also make the content available via its website WWE.com, as well as via Apple iOS and Android devices and popular game consoles. For added value, thousands of hours of archived video material will be available on demand via the new network, the WWE executives said.
