Online news company to roll out metered subscription model

Crain’s Chicago Business plans to implement a new subscription model mid-June in an attempt to increase revenue without disrupting the reading habits of current subscribers. The new subscription plan will allow users to view up to 12 Crain’s articles per month without charge. An option to combine digital and print subscriptions will also be available.

“We have enhanced the user experience and instituted a subscription model that is current and fair,” Crain’s publisher David Snyder said. “It satisfies the power user’s need for deeper Crain’s content while leaving other users’ access to the site unaffected.”

By subscribing to the online news service, however, individuals will also have access to archived stories that are unavailable to non-subscribers. Registered users will also be able to view news articles, blogs, videos and interactive graphics on all devices, including traditional desktop web browsers, smartphones and tablets.
